Our Day

Sometimes I look back at the end of the day and wonder... what in the #%!@ did we do all day?
Here is a small glimpse of 4 hours...

Starting with breakfast. Takes about 10 minutes to make a hot and delicious oatmeal breakfast. Takes about 20 minutes to clean up the dishes, the baby, the highchair, the floor...

After cleaning up breakfast, the cat vomit on the stairs, two trips for the toddler to the bathroom, putting everything back in the cupboard the baby took out while I was cleaning the oatmeal off the floor, one tantrum involving a timeout on the stairs - we throw on coats and head outside for a walk to look at Christmas decorations (with a long stop at the pond to visit our waterfowl friends).

We have countless conversations like "no honey, it is cute when a preschooler looks through someone's fence and creepy when a grownup does it".

We love collecting leaves, sticks and rocks. We regularly visit the ducks and check up on the goose with the broken wing.

Most days we incorporate swinging and running races at the neighborhood park into our walk.

We absolutely always save worms that we find struggling on the sidewalk. We occassionally bring a friend home with us. This gal's name is "jen paur". She will live in a jar for a couple of days before she is deposited in a planter outside.

Home for lunch!

I was telling my advisor today that my friend's daughter named a worm after me. I told the story with great pride, but when I hit the punch line ("...and she named it Jen Paur!"), he didn't exactly laugh. And I realized that I am very proud to have a WORM named after me.
And dammit, I am. Because ELIOT named a worm after me.
Jen Paur.
