Kasatochi

Normally I don't post about Evan travelling as it seems unwise to announce to the world when we are home alone for weeks on end.

This can be challenging because his trips usually are surrounded by interesting circumstances.

~The days spent in a public hospital in Puerto Rico trying to get aid to a critically ill colleague
~The mind blowing madness in New Orleans resulting from Hurricane Katrina
~Doing cpr on and saving the life of a colleague in a bathroom at a conference...

just to name a few examples.

This time, there are volcanoes, earthquakes and falling ash.

Evan is currently on Adak Island (about as close to Russia as you can get on the Aleutian Chain). He almost couldn't get there, and sat stranded in Anchorage for a few days due to ash in the air from an erupting volcano.

Now, our main concern is him being able to return in a few weeks due to a different erupting volcano, Kasatochi.

As the volcano erupts it is spewing ash, disrupting flights and rocking the aleution chain with earthquakes - some which Evan has felt, some which he has not.

Currently, Alaska Airline has had to cancel 41 flights to the lower 48 resulting from the current Kasatochi eruption.

Keep your fingers crossed that while Kasatochi goes back to sleep, the rest stay in gentle slumber.

What does he do?

This particular jobsite is munitions response, they are helping USAE locate and reclaim unexploded ordinances (bombs, bullets, grenades, etc) after the Navy left Adak.

He doesn't do the exploding or handling of the munitions.
